Proposals
Background
The site is allocated in the Chelmsford Local Plan under Strategic Growth Site 3a – north of Maldon Road. It lies on the western edge of Chelmsford between the settlements of Great Baddow to the south and Chelmer to the north.
As detailed in the Local Plan, adopted this year, the site is identified as offering key benefits to a strategic area for growth in the district, contributing to Chelmsford’s housing need, and providing significant investment in local infrastructure. The site is suitable, sustainable and can be delivered within the period of the Local Plan.
Plans
The proposals include new homes of a mixed type and tenure that have been designed to meet the housing needs of the local community. The new homes will include the delivery of:
Affordable homes
Housing designed to give young people a foot on the housing ladder, and older people looking to downsize
Building heights that reflect the character of Great Baddow, and its existing landscape
The proposals will also include:
Provisions to create a well-connected internal road layout
New pedestrian and cycling routes that will be connected to existing routes across Great Baddow and Chelmsford
Protection and enhancements to the historic and natural environment
Investment in new and existing green infrastructure networks, to preserve and enhance vegetation across the site
New public open space, alongside recreational and community facilities for new and existing residents
Your feedback on our proposals will be considered by Chelmsford City Council as they review the submitted Masterplan, and Hopkins Homes in advance of a future planning application.
